Performance with Maternal Genetics

Maximising commercial prime lamb production was the main driver behind the importation of Greeline Maternal Composite genetics. The Greeline is a stabilised composite that was developed in New Zealand after selecting from the best Coopworth, East Friesian and Texel genetics for fertility, milk, mothering ability and superior growth and carcase qualities.

The Greeline is the self-replacing maternal that also has the carcase qualities of a terminal breed.

Greeline Advantages:

  • High lambing percentages over 160%
  • Early maturing giving the potential for extra productivity through mating ewe lambs
  • Clients using Greeline Genetics have scanned over 90% of ewe lambs pregnant to ewe lambs mated with a high portion of these carrying twins
  • Self replacing – breeding your own replacements reduces the risks of buying in sheep with OJD, footrot, lice and drench resistance. Select your top maternal breeding replacements from the entire female drop
  • Good milk and early growth = heavier weaning weights
  • Superior quality carcase with high lean meat yields to meet market specifications
  • All Rams used carry either a single or double copy of the myomax gene increasing lean meat yield
  • Ability to grow out to a heavier weight, lean carcase
  • Bred for worm resilience
  • Performance recorded through Sheep Genetics Australia

Performance at Glenridge Park

Since introducing Greeline genetics in 2006 Glenridge Park has worked hard to establish an elite Greeline Stud with a focus on commercially profitable traits. To ensure this the Elite stud had been recorded through Lambplan to accurately assist clients to select rams that meet their breeding requirements and to assist us in continually improving the performance of our own commercial operation.

The traits which are of particular importance include number of lambs weaned, weaning weights, eye muscle depth along with a visual assessment of carcass composition and soundness all of which are critical to profitability. Since recording begun the elite stud has consistently weaned over 150%, reaching 165%, with average weaning weights at 12 weeks reaching up to 40 kg.
