CHEVIOTS

Cheviots
Glenridge Park Cheviot Sheep

Tough, hardy, ideal for hogget lambing

Glenridge Park Cheviot stud was established in 1969 primarily to use as a terminal sire over our 1st cross ewes. Compared to other terminal breeds we found the cheviot cross to produce more lambs, due to ease of lambing, which grew faster with exceptional muscling. The Cheviot is a very old and very pure sheep breed, renown for hardiness and vigour in tough conditions. We always say that our Cheviot lambs hit the ground running! Cheviot lambs have a high survival rate, their low birth weight makes for easier lambing and their vigour results in rapid growth and early maturity. In our current commercial operation we find the Cheviot to be an ideal sire for mating ewe lambs which greatly increases productivity over the lifetime of our commercial ewe.

The Cheviot:
  • Is an extremely hardy, low maintenance sheep
  • Lambs have a high survival rate
  • Is a very pure breed with excellent hybrid vigour
  • Is ideal for mating ewe lambs
  • Possibly the easiest lambing breed
  • Produces a vigorous fast growing lamb
  • Is a well muscled sheep with good carcase characteristics
